Am I the only one that finds irony in the fact that, in order for the Microsoft monolith to survive, it has to open up its previously closed, and proprietary, services? The beta of Windows Live, and its bevy of free services that are platform independent (I can use them on my Mac, although Safari isn’t really supported), is reinventing the company. I’ve noticed a change in my own perception towards the company, I can’t be the only one.
It’s amazing what opening up, closing proprietary holes, and focusing on the experience of the user can do to a company. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not going to run out and switch back to Windows (that may never ever happen), but I find myself, for the first time in a long time, without anything bad to say about Microsoft… I just hope Vista will fix that, or I might forget who I am!
