At approximately 11:45pm (PDT) this evening, April 6, 2006, I heard high-pitched clicking noises eminating from my charging iPod. I immediately unplugged it, and reset the system. Upon disappearance of the Apple logo during boot, I was faced with this:
At 11:50pm, after many resets and numerous attempts at attaching in disk mode for a software restore, I pronounced my iPod dead, and completed the online service request at apple.com. May it rest in peace…
And may my new iPod arrive promptly.
Update: I received an e-mail from Apple support. My shipping materials will arrive within 2 business days. I’m going to keep track of the progress here for posterity. PS- the iPod is covered under it’s 1 year AppleCare Warranty.
